may 2010 - portugal: the solis project has been nominated for the novo norte 2010 awards

12 local initiatives, 11 partners, 60 months of development, more than 3600 beneficiaries and a total investment of 1.18 million euros went into to the accomplishment of this effort.

The SOLIS Social and Community Development Program, conducted by Dianova Portugal, has been nominated, along with five other programs, for the NOVO NORTE 2010 awards. Among the other nominees are la Casa da Música, Fundação de Serralves, Escola de Engenharia da Universidade do Minho and the Município de Matosinhos.

The NOVO NORTE awards will be awarded by the Northern Commission on Social Development and the "Jornal de Noticas", in order to reward the most innovative regional development initiatives.

Since it was established initially in 2005, until its completion next August, 2010 (60 months duration), the SOLIS Social and Community Development Program has been developing and executing innovative initiatives to support vulnerable families suffering from domestic violence, confronted with poverty, discriminated against, or socially excluded. In 5 years, more than 3,600 individuals have benefited from 12 different projects, among which have been the Dianova, Casa Azul temporary housing program, the volunteer local community bank, the jurisdictional support project, the "AjudaLar" in-home supportive services for the elderly, and the home renovation program which benefits the elderly and other vulnerable or disabled people.
