june 2010 - chile- reconstruction of dianova centers is under way after the earthquake

Three months after an earthquake devastated the country of Chile and severely damaged the Dianova centers of that country, reconstruction has finally begun, and more intensive restoration efforts are on their way. However, while Dianova's activities are slowly recovering, the earthquake severely endangered the organization's services and viability, and there is still much to be accomplished.

Help rebuild the centers, make a donation (secure online form)

Man holding orn Chilean flag Thanks to the contributions of various members of the Dianova network and other institutions, more than 46,000 € have been donated so far. These donations have covered our most urgent needs, such as the reconstruction of the San Bernardocenter in compliance with the organization's safety standards.

San Bernardo's therapeutic and educational center, which had been badly affected by the quake, is now able to operate at about 50% of normal capacity, while, at the same time, the center’s most urgent needs have been provided for, including the renovation of therapy rooms, dormitories and load-bearing walls – among other repairs. Although much restoration is still to be done, the center's management has announced that the center would be back to normal operation by the end of June!

Two of Dianova’s other centers were not as lucky. Curico's center has been razed to the ground and Casa Viscaya was declared uninhabitable by the local municipality. Nevertheless, during those months of uncertainty, 100% of Dianova’s outpatient services were able to be fulfilled, thanks to the cooperation of the La Familia Foundation, which provided the necessary facilities.

Throughout this extended process all of the staff members of Dianova Chile rolled their sleeves up to pursue the organization's mission and help those who had the greatest needs. On behalf of Dianova International, we would like to thank all those who gave moral and financial support, and we ask that they continue doing so.
